The streets on this Sunday morning in Crystal City held an unusal specticle... Heads were turning as the Drag Brunch Fashion Show brought the city's most flamboyant, excentric and fabulous Freddie's Follies down the runway. The Human Rights Campaign was there representing its Coming Out Project that aims to help LGBT and straight-supportive people live, talk and support their effort towards equality. Cucina Vivace supplied amazing fritatas (the dill were my favorite!) and the cutest mini key lime velvet cupcakes. My favorite part of the day may easily have been walking out with DJ Neekola with her bright orange (florescent orange) wig on! It was an awesome show and everyone was super excited to be there.

With everything from 'First Ladies of Fashion' to 'Theater Thursday Costume Design' the event is stacked with an animated diverse insight into the latest fashions.

February 12-- Aloft's Grand Opening

Aloft was in a pleasant commotion as DJ Rich Webb spun side by side DJ Neekola for an intense night of getting down. DJ Neekola had an amazing time spinning and adores Rich Web...(what is not to adore?). The dance floor was intense and so many came out to party and enjoy this duo.

1.24.09---Saturday night at the Rock and Roll Hotel was phenomenal… It really is such a cool venue… very dark and rustic, very real, and so far away from the the elitist washingtonian feel of so many bars. …The whole night was candy to my ears.. DJ Delphi, Dj Neekola, and then DJ Monk from Rabbit in the Moon shook the dance floor down..

The highlight of the night was hearing some of Dj Neekola’s original pieces.. another reason to love The Rock & Roll Hotel.. she had free rule over the dance floor and was playing her own deep house jams… and in result had the dance floor
stomping. It seemed like just about everyone there couldn’t help but get down.. myself included;). She ruled the floor in
celebration of her friend Terra’s Birthday!!

Determined to speak only German since arriving in Switzerland-- Neekola has put her hard work of learning the language to good use! (And believe me, I saw her lugging German books around and going to class!) She's been both excited and dedicated to to communicate with everyone around her. It seems that this trip, now knowing a bit more German, has been extra special to her---- shes has unveiled her personality to her friends and has really gotten to know the team (AS Calcio), their girlfriends, the people of the Bee Company, Metropol bar, and various other people she's met while in Kreuzlingen. In exchange, she has also been able to discover the individuality and character of her new friends.

The last Saturday in town Neekola spun at a local bar called Metropol, owned by Dario, DJ Butterfly. Her Good friend Naomi came into town for it and despite Neekola reporting she was nervous (Dario is a big name among DJ's in the area), she rocked out... people were dancing on bars, singing along to her remixes, cheering for her original tracks and she even slipped in a few special remixes of old Italian folk songs. It was a night that was to be remembered and she (and everyone else) has an amazing time.

---e-mail from Neekola "Switzerland is so amazing. There are a lot of great things about this place, but the people here in Kreuzlingen are what make it so special to me. Its quite difficult to explain here on the email how much I really love these people here, but these people are so very unique. Each and every person here has such a big heart and is so full of love for everyone around them, its really something special."

From what she has told me she's been having a blast. She could not speak more good words of the AS Calcio football team. She stole the spotlight in Kreuzlingen spinning for AS Calcio at a restaurant called Centro Italiano--- they actually converted the back of the restaurant, (which typically is a bacchi ball arena !!!) into a giant disco!

There was a VIP area, a full bar where the team had served as bartenders, a big DJ booth area, and a HUGE dance floor. She spent the night Djing with the talented Oliver Klinghoffer! He is an amazing DJ with great music from Katakomb nightclub, and she always has a great time working with him when she's over there. (She kept saying how wonderful and friendly he is). They had a huge turnout and a wonderful time.

I don't understand how people can highly function without sleep..... the last few weeks before she left Dj Neekola was everywhere...

Here she headlined (and rocked out) at the Grandby Theater Euronight France.

At Nordstroms, djing for Shape Magazine sponsored by Nike.

Halloween started at the Beacon Hotel spining side by side with Dj Adrian Loving .....she then hopped over to the Shadow Room where she rocked out through the early hours of the morningl until there was no one left on the dance floor.

This event seems amazing... here she gets to Dj for the 'Blonde Charity Mafia' at Teatro Goldini.... I can't wait to see this show... (and get to hear her in the background...) The show is supposed to come out sometime in the new year, and is a DC based reality show on 3 twenty-something-blonde socialites as they take on philantrophy in the District.

Since that beginning day (where I made the cut!), so much has gone on!

First, a major birthday party where she rocked out, got sung to,

and had a great time with a ton of her friends. She was able to say her first round of farewells before leaving to galavant around Europe (and of course see her favorite soccer team in the world, AS Calcio).

The day and the life...

Welcome to the day (night) and life of Deejay Neekola. This is just the beginning of many trails of words to follow behind her every move. I am the go-between, the spy, and will be your advocate (as in if you have any thoughts, suggestions, questions or comments, I am here for you!). My job is to keep you on top of the whereabouts and workings of Deejay Neekola. As she continues to climb the charts you can expect to be kept in the know, getting the behind-the-scene inside look.

My name is Lizzy and I've always been envious of those people who were always in the know about music. I'm sure you know them....the people who find the latest bands who you've never heard of, but 6 months later are everywhere; who frequent concerts more then they grocery shop, and who follow their favorite singer/band/dj and always know the what, who and where of the artists' lives.

Some how, by some twist of fate, I got myself an into that world... and what I see, hear and know, now so will you! Dj Neekola has one fast-paced, crazy life, and in the last month of assisting her, I've seen her true modesty and gratitude for everyone that helps make her who she is.

So far (its only been a month) the best day of this whole experience(being not only a total girly girl, but also huge a fan of wanting to know what goes on behind the scenes) was my first day. After meeting Dj Neekola for only about an hour, she invited me to her photo shoot the next day. I had always assumed that those amazing professional pictures you found on the cover of an album or in Vogue, just happened somewhere exotic. Like NY or LA, and were in a way, so magical. Before we arrived at the Sofiet Hotel in downtown DC, Neekola told me how she was nervous and that she hated doing photo shoots. She admitted she always feels like her prints came out looking unphotogenic. This day though, to me it seemed as if she were a quintessential model. After nine hours with brilliant and ingenious photographer Tim Coburn and makeup artist /hair stylist with exceptional talent James Cornwell, I was totally blown away.

First of all, the two of them together had me close to rolling on the ground laughing the whole day, because they played off each other so well and set the ambiance for the day at ease.

Highlight of their antics: James wearing lace in place of a sweatband over his forehead and threatening to go as 'Glambo' for Halloween!

We switched rooms, we switched angles, Neekola laid on the floor, smiled in a closet, held up vinyls in a bathroom and struck a pose with two of her friends that modeled as bodyguards. She went from hot and hip in a leather coat, to posh and stunning in a chic dress, made for her, by her friend, designer Aidah Fontenot.

That moment,right there put me over the edge.. it was incredible. Everything she wore was tailored to her, one-of-a-kind, and was dazzlingly stylish. Oh and did I mention she also had another friend to help accessorize her? Will Lawry, manager of Georgetown's Reiss was pulling out hot frills as the day went along.
